GLOBAL transportation company DB Schenker has started construction work on a new logistics facility in Dubai.

It will offer general cargo warehousing, distribution and value-added services, with a warehouse space of 8,500 sq m and a total storage capacity of 8,500 pallet positions with two mezzanine levels dedicated for value added services and spare parts operations.

The building will contain temperature-controlled areas as well as ambient temperature zones and will have direct access to the new Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai – which is designed to be the world’s largest airport, with an annual capacity of 12 million tonnes – and to the land side of the free-zone, allowing access to the sea port of Jebel Ali.

“The services offered combined with the optimal location of the facility will enable a smooth and accelerated flow of sea-to-air and air-to-sea cargo transportation,” says Ako Djaf, DB Schenkers’ regional head of contract logistics for the region.

Main shipment types to be processed in the warehouse will be automotive, industrial spare parts and well as fashion items.
