Poland-based Welcome Airport Services has opened a new cargo handling facility at Warsaw Chopin Airport.

The new facility, which began handling cargo on January 7 and is located next to the airport, has almost 2,900 sq m of warehouse space and offers temperature-controlled chambers. It can also handle live animal, valuable, radioactive, and human remains shipments.

“The new terminal has been built to increase company's cargo capabilities, provide highest quality services for its cargo clients and manage the most demanding parcels,” a spokesperson said.

Overall, the company employs 2,200 people in six locations in Poland.

According to Airports Council International Europe, Warsaw Chopin has been bucking the overall trend for airports on the continent with cargo volumes improving by 4.4% year on year to 79,907 tonnes over the first ten months of the year.

Overall, European airports have seen cargo demand decline by 2.3% over the first ten months of the year.
