Aircraft brokerage firm Avico has appointed air cargo stalwart Pierre Van Der Stichele to its cargo and aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) team.

Van Der Stichele, who takes the role of managing director, joins from Air Partner where he was vice president of cargo. He has also previously worked for Chapman Freeborn Airchartering as global director cargo.

Previous to that, he worked for Antonov Airlines, Southern Air Transport and Evergreen International airlines over a 30-year career in aviation.

Avico chief executive Gilles Gompertz said Van Der Stichele is a "great addition to the team and brings a wealth of experience and will not doubt assist Avico to reach the next level".

Earlier this week, Air Partner announced that it had appointed Eliska Hill as global senior vice president of cargo.

Hill will be responsible for overseeing operations and strategic growth within the company’s cargo division for all markets globally.

France-based broker Avico is present in 11 countries across Europe, the Americas and Africa, and has established partnerships in the Middle East and Asia.

It has 350 employees and achieved a consolidated turnover of €220m in 2024.

In 2022, Avico started listing freighter capacity with online marketplace Airblox.

The broker was aiming to optimise the capacity it chartered on otherwise empty legs on behalf of customers.

“If we charter a freighter to transport oversized cargo, for example, our customers will benefit from us being able to make use of capacity, which would otherwise not be used," the company said.
