UPS has opened a healthcare-dedicated air freight forwarding facility at Schiphol Airport on the back of increased demand and changing regulatory requirements.
The new 600sq m facility is Good Distribution Practice certified and features 15-25 degree celsius and 2-8 degree celsius temperature zones as well as monitoring and alarm systems to protect the integrity of temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments.
UPS vice president of global strategy, healthcare logistics, John Menna said: “With the rise of biologics and temperature-sensitive products as well as changing regulations governing the transportation of pharmaceuticals across different geographies, companies need increased control and protection of their products during transit.”
The New York Stock Exchange-listed logistics giant said the facility would also allow it provide more control of the cross-docking and interim storage of healthcare shipments.
The announcement comes six months after UPS announced its agreement to acquire pharmaceutical logistics company Poltraf.
