The UK’s Freight Transport Association (FTA) has announced that it is launching a new working group to look at issues affecting the airfreight sector.
The freight and logistics group said it had decided to launch the group as airfreight is a crucial part of UK logistics and the wider economy, and a number of issues are currently under discussion at national and international level that will shape the UK aviation sector for years to come.
The new group is open to all FTA members with an interest in aviation and will focus on establishing a clear FTA vision and strategy for airfreight, and promoting the economic benefits of the sector to governments across the UK and the EU.
Alex Veitch, FTA Head of Global Policy, said: “The group will enable us to develop an action plan to engage constructively with airport owners, operators and airlines to improve air freight facilities, and to continue to engage with UK Government on aviation capacity in the south east of England.”
The new group will report to FTA’s British Shippers’ Council and will operate on a ‘task and finish’ basis.
This means it will deliver agreed objectives and then disband, unless members see value in developing it into a permanent committee.
