Express carrier TNT has opened a new automated hub at Erskine Park in Sydney for domestic and international shipments capable of processing up to 25,000 parcels per hour.
It forms part of a wider investment in Australia that will also include hubs in Melbourne and Brisbane, both due for completion later this year.
The new Sydney hub incorporates Australia’s first high speed automatic sortation system for larger items of 1.5 metres and 30kg or above and also offers automatic pallet deconsolidation, reducing the need for manual handling.
The site in western Sydney was chosen in part because it was close to many of TNT’s high volume customers. It also has direct freeway links to Brisbane and Melbourne and would be well placed for the proposed Badgery’s Creek airport.
