Flights at Belfast International Airport after a TNT 737 freighter aircraft suffered a burst tyre incident on the main runway at about 6am today (Tuesday October 4), leading to the complete shut-down of Northern Ireland’s main air gateway at one stage.
A spokesman for the airport was reported as saying that the aircraft had a number of burst tyres and halted at the junction of the airport’s runways.
Aircraft were later reported to be having to operate off one remaining runway while air accident investigators completed their work and the freighter was unloaded, allowing it to be moved.
