The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has officially launched the fourth iteration of its Annual Air Cargo Sustainability Survey.
According to the Miami, Florida-headquartered body that seeks to represent and unite all parts of the airfreight industry, this year’s survey will continue to monitor air cargo’s progress towards a sustainable future.
TIACA is calling on “the entire industry to respond to allow us to get a full understanding of the work we are doing”.
The results and recommendations of the air cargo sustainability survey will be reproduced in TIACA’s Insights Report. The first such report, containing the results of the first Annual Air Cargo Sustainability Survey, was published in 2020 – it is intended to serve as a benchmark to measure year-on-year progress in the air cargo industry’s move towards greater sustainability.
The Annual Air Cargo Sustainability Survey was launched in 2020 as part of a wider TIACA initiative aimed at uniting the air cargo industry in a common vision, goals and action plan, driving and accelerating the move towards greater sustainability.
Glyn Hughes, TIACA’s director general, remarked: “It is vital that we track and monitor collective industry efforts towards sustainability to not just see the push towards a sustainable future but also to tell the world about all of the ways we are moving forward.
“The Insights Report allows us to do this and with the feedback we get from the industry through the survey, we can do just that.
“We are looking forward to sharing the results with you early next year,” he concluded.
Moreover, TIACA’s sustainability programme also forms part of a plank of its 3+2 vision: people, planet, prosperity + innovation & partnerships.
Finalists declared for 5th Sustainability Awards
TIACA also offers a number of Sustainability Awards each year. Earlier this month (November), it announced the finalists in one category of its fifth such awards process, which is designed to recognise businesses and industry initiatives seeking to make air cargo more sustainable.
Two categories are judged in each awards process, one for start-ups and small businesses, and the second for established businesses.
The finalists in this year’s start-up/small business category are: Pledge, for its freight emissions calculation and offsetting tools; Regent Craft, for unlocking emission-free cargo transportation between coastal cities using sea gliders; and VRR Collapsible, for addressing the global ULD imbalance.
TIACA will hold an awards ceremony during its Executive Summit being held in Brussels, Belgium, between 6 and 8 November 2023. Awards will be presented to the winner in the corporate and in the start-up/small business categories, as well as two runners-up.
TIACA’s BlueSky programme, also mentioned by Polmans, is a tool that elements of the air cargo industry can use to track their own sustainability progress and benchmark against peers.
