Toll Group, part of Japan Post, has appointed Thomas Knudsen to the role of president, global forwarding, commencing in January 2018.
Based in Singapore, Knudsen will lead more than 3,100 Toll team members across 26 countries, as well as a network of agents across more than 150 countries, all providing international air and ocean freight forwarding and supply chain management services.
Prior to taking up the post at Toll, Knudsen was CEO, Asia Pacific at Damco (part of Danish Maersk Group). He had previously spent two decades with AP Moller–Maersk, most recently as Asia Pacific regional chief executive for Maersk Line, its container shipping arm.
Damco reports $6m loss
In its interim report for the third quarter of 2017, Damco confirmed a loss of $6m. A cyber attack in June as well as “increased product investments and lower ocean margins [were] positively offset mainly by supply chain management volume growth and air freight margin improvements”, the report stated.
Airfreight volumes for the first nine months of 2017 stood at 145,893 tonnes, an improvement on the 138,863 tonnes handled during the same period of 2016.
