AVIATION history maker the ‘Spirit of St Louis’ has crossed the Atlantic Ocean once again – thanks to an Air France-KLM-Martinair air cargo co-operation.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Paris-Le Bourget Airport, the Air and Space Museum there is to exhibit a replica of the single-seat aircraft that was flown solo by Charles Lindbergh on the first non-stop flight between New York and Paris in May 1927.
That historic flight lasted more than 33 hours.
This time, it took Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo just eight hours to fly the famous monoplane from Atlanta to Paris aboard an Air France B747 freighter.
The replica travelled in two parts on a 20-foot pallet, with a significant overhang, which meant it could be only carried by a freighter with a nose-loading door.
“Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo is proud to have been associated with this event, where tradition met expertise,” says a spokesperson.
