Textron Aviation's Cessna SkyCourier twin utility turboprop has been awarded type certification by the National Civil Aviation Authority of Brazil (ANAC).
The Kansas, US-based aircraft manufacturer said the SkyCourier, available in both passenger and freighter format, is an "ideal fit for Brazil's diverse geography, remote locations and growing demand for air transportation".
Lannie O’Bannion, senior vice president, global sales and flight operations at Textron Aviation, said: “The Cessna SkyCourier's high payload capacity, short takeoff and landing capability, and cost-efficiency make it a great choice for operators in Brazil.
“The aircraft's versatility and performance equip customers in the region with smart solutions for their unique missions and circumstances.”
In addition to the freighter variant, there is a 19-passenger variant of the SkyCourier. Both configurations offer single-point pressure refuelling to enable faster turnarounds.
With its short take-off and landing capability, the aircraft can operate from smaller runways, reaching remote communities and serving locations with limited infrastructure.
Additionally, the recently certified gravel kit option further expands the SkyCourier’s capability to operate from unimproved runways.
The US Federal Aviation Administration granted type certification for Textron Aviation’s Cessna SkyCourier in March 2022.
Textron Aviation delivered the first of 50 Cessna SkyCourier freighters to FedEx Express in May last year.
FedEx Express is the Cessna SkyCourier’s launch customer after signing a deal in 2017. The company agreed to an initial fleet order of 50 cargo aircraft and options for 50 more.
