Fraport and Swissport signed a long-term lease agreement for a new air cargo facility in CargoCity South at Frankfurt Airport (FRA).

The new facility will have a surface of 16,900 sq m, with an additional 2,260 sq m to be used as office and social space.

The warehouse will be tailored to the requirements of modern air cargo handling and built in line with the latest industry standards, Fraport said.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2019 while the completion and handover to Swissport is planned for the beginning of the third quarter of 2020.

"Thanks to the excellent location in CargoCity South and a flexible design, this new warehouse will allow Swissport to meet and continually optimize air freight handling requirements. Therefore, the innovative facility will provide Swissport with long-term growth opportunities at Frankfurt Airport,” explained Christian Balletshofer, senior vice president of real estate at Fraport.

Willy Ruf, senior vice president of Swissport Germany, Austria & Switzerland, added: “Swissport is committing a double-digit million euro amount towards the new facility at Frankfurt. Infrastructure plays a key role in optimizing our service delivery and reaching the ambitious efficiency and reliability goals for our clients around the world.”
