Swissport has appointed Joel Greig as the new general manager of cargo for Australia and New Zealand following the addition of freight operations at Sydney in late 2023.
Greig will drive the growth strategy in the region, and enhance operational efficiency and service excellence, the handler said.
He has more than 20 years of experience in the aviation industry, including several roles as executive manager, most recently as head of freight for Qantas in Australia.
"Joel's expertise includes cargo handling, operational transformations, and innovative logistics solutions, and will be crucial in growing Swissport’s cargo footprint in the region," said Swissport.
Brad Moore, chief executive of Swissport in the Asia Pacific region, added: "His extensive industry knowledge and experience will be vital as we continue to expand our cargo operations in Australia and New Zealand, opening new air cargo centers and grow our customer base."
The company expanded its cargo operations to Australia - although it already had a handling presence in the country - at the end of 2023 when it opened a facility at Sydney Airport.
Swissport’s first cargo customers in the country were VietJet and Batik Air, which operate flights between Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Overall, Swissport provides airport ground services to 36 domestic and international airlines at 23 airports, serving 1.5m passengers in Australia and New Zealand.
