Swissport and Lufthansa have signed a five-year, renewed contract to carry out cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports.
The agreement – which is valid from December 2019 until the end of 2024 – covers warehousing, cargo ramp transport and the handling of mail, pharmaceuticals, valuables and general cargo for Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines at the two Belgian hubs.
Rudolf Steiner, senior vice president cargo Europe, Middle East and Africa at Swissport, commented: “We are pleased to anchor the cargo handling business for Lufthansa Cargo at Brussels Airport and look forward to further growing our cooperation across our global network.”
Swissport Belgium handles more than 550,000 tons of air cargo per year and its ground services division serves 7.5 m passengers annually. It is due to complete the expansion of its Brussels facility, which will enable it to increase its handling capacity.
Late last year, the company opened a new pharma facility at the Belgian airport.
In 2018, Swissport International provided ground services for 282m airline passengers and handled 4.8m tons of airfreight in 115 cargo warehouses worldwide. Several of its warehouses have been certified for pharmaceutical logistics by IATA’s CEIV.
