Yesterday (October 15), SWISS announced that it has grounded its fleet of A220 aircraft following an engine inspection.

The airline has confirmed that its bellyhold cargo operations with Swiss WorldCargo are also affected.

In a statement, SWISS explained: "The decision announced yesterday by SWISS to conduct an engine inspection of its C Series/A220 fleet led to a noticeable impairment in SWISS flight operations.

"As of Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday night, 17 C Series/A220 aircraft would have already been inspected. The engines are in perfect condition, so 12 aircraft have returned to regular flight operations. A further five aircraft will follow on Wednesday noon.

"Shipments from Switzerland are being rebooked on the next available flight or truck. Inbound cargo is being rebooked by individual origin stations depending on shipment schedules."

SWISS assumes that normal flight operations will be resumed tomorrow.
