Swiss WorldCargo has opened a handling hub at Cancun, Mexico, which will enable flights between Zurich, Switzerland, and the destination to carry freight on both inbound and outbound journeys.
Swiss WorldCargo operates flights three times a week, utilising an Airbus A340-400 aircraft, via Edelweiss – a sister company of Swiss International Airlines. The service will offer a payload in excess of 15 tonnes on each leg of the flight.
GSSA Skylog, a subsidiary of ECS Group, will manage the commercial activity for this new service and Swissport will oversee ground-handling operations.
With the new service, inbound flights will depart from Zurich in the afternoon and will arrive in Cancun in the evening, while outbound flights will leave Cancun in the evening and will arrive in Zurich the following afternoon.
These flight times will allow customers in Mexico to benefit from late delivery times in Cancun. Meanwhile, the arrival times in Zurich will enable same-day connections to Swiss WorldCargo’s worldwide destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Hendrik Falk, head of cargo for US West, South and Latin America, commented: "We are delighted to open our Cancun station to exports.
"With this new development, we will create additional export options for numerous customers shipping a wide variety of products from the Yucatan Peninsula to Switzerland, Europe and the rest of the world. Having a strong foothold in the Latin American market remains a critical focus point for us."
