SWISS is considering removing the economy passenger seats from twelve of its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to meet the increasing demand for airfreight capacity.

The modifications would help to maintain Switzerland's global supply chains and ultimately ensure consistent and regular goods deliveries to and from the country.

SWISS and its Swiss WorldCargo division have performed more than 80 cargo-only flights since the end of March, transporting over 1,300 tonnes of airfreight between Asia and Switzerland.

Cargo transported included medicines and medical supplies for the Swiss healthcare system, as it continues its fight against Covid-19.

SWISS is also planning to operate more than 100 cargo flights on behalf of various private and public businesses between now and the end of May.

In addition, the carrier will introduce a new network of cargo-only flights between Zurich and Shanghai (up to three times daily), Beijing (up to twice daily), Chicago and Tokyo (twice weekly), and Bangkok and Singapore (weekly). Further destinations are expected to be added to the new network over the next few weeks.
