Ukraine-registered cargo carrier Supernova Airlines said it has added a Boeing 737-800SF to its fleet and is now prepared to begin charter flights outside of the European Union (EU).
The airline, owned by New York-based logistics company Nova Global, has completed the process of adding the aircraft to its airline operator certificate (AOC) and has carried out its first flight using the 737-800SF.
Air Cargo News reported in January 2023 that the airline had received an operator’s certificate and had leased two Antonov AN-26 aircraft, however, Supernova did not confirm details at the time.
According to current Planespotters data, the 737-800SF is the sole aircraft in operation for the airline, but data shows the airline previously had use of a ATR 72.
Supernova said in a LinkedIn post last week: "On September 27, 2024, the SuperNova Airlines completed the process of introducing a new type of aircraft — the Boeing 737-800SF — to its Operation Specifications, having received all the necessary documents from the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine.
"While the procedure for obtaining permits for flights in European countries and the US is ongoing, we are ready to perform charter flights outside the EU - where a Ukrainian operator's certificate is sufficient for commercial flights."
Supernova Airlines was established on October 1 2021 and received a Ukrainian operator's certificate on January 6 2023.
Supernova Airlines expects to operate flights from Boryspil and Lviv international airports after the end of the Russia-Ukraine war, however, while the Ukrainian skies are closed for flights, air transportation will be carried out from the European airports closest to Ukraine.
