AeroUnion has added an Airbus A330-300 passenger to freighter (P2F) aircraft to its fleet which will also benefit Avianca Cargo as part of an ongoing commercial cooperation agreement.
Based at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) in Mexico, the aircraft will cover routes in Colombia, México and the US, where it will call at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Miami International Airport (MIA), Avianca Cargo told Air Cargo News.
The aircraft will specialise in carrying perishable products such as fruits and flowers. It will also transport oversized cargo for the automotive, mining, and oil sectors, along with e-commerce and parcel shipments.
As part of the Commercial Cooperation Agreement, Avianca Cargo and AeroUnion have complementary route networks and access to each other’s operational capacity in strategic markets for both operators, explained Avianca Cargo.
AeroUnion currently has a fleet of five aircraft, including two Boeing 767-200Fs. The 17-year-old EFW-converted A330-300P2F (N337QT) will increase the airline’s cargo capacity, with three additional A330P2Fs expected to join between 2024 and 2025. Meanwhile, Avianca Cargo currently operates a fleet of six A330 aircraft.

“Freight transportation has shown significant improvement in recent years compared to pre-pandemic levels. Latin American exports have increased by approximately 16%, while imports have seen a 10% recovery,” commented Diogo Elias, senior vice president and leader of Avianca Cargo.
“The A330 is an ideal aircraft due to its higher volumetric capacity and lower environmental impact, attributed to enhanced fuel efficiency per ton.”

Avianca Cargo’s route network connects more than 68 destinations with 220 weekly cargo flights. The airline also utilises over 1,800 passenger flights for cargo transport.
