Shanghai Pudong Int’l Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL) has officially opened a new cool centre, certified to IATA CEIV Pharma standards - the first Chinese facility to achieve this. It can handle 100,000 tonnes of temperature-sensitive goods a year on a 3,500sq m footprint.
Facilities include freezers (+8 to -18 degrees Celsius) and coolers (+2 to +25 degrees C) using non-toxic refrigerants, as well as an ambient climate zone (+15 to +25 degrees C. Refrigerated dollies and thermo-blankets are available for transfer between the apron stands and the warehouse.
There is a 24-hour CCTV system and an automated temperature measure alarm system and everything is fully integrated into PACTL’s warehouse management system.
PACTL vice president, Lutz Grzegorz, said the new site and sophisticated trucking network would allow it to fully meet the requirements of its airline customers for the handling of temperature-sensitive goods.
Commodities that have already passed through the new centre include biomedical and pharmaceutical products, dairy produce, seafood, exotic fruit and vegetables, chilled and frozen meat and poultry.
