Fast-growing express carrier SF Airlines has applied to the US Department of Transportation to launch a scheduled freighter service between its Hangzhou hub and New York.

The Chinese carrier hopes to launch the three-times per week service in September 2019 utilising one of its two Boeing 747-400F freighters

The service is not the carrier's first China-US operation as it also has an ACMI deal with Atlas Air to operate flights between the two countries, although the exact details of the flights are unknown.

SF Airlines purchased its two B747-400Fs through through an online auction on the Alibaba-owned website, Taobao, in 2017.

At present, its fleet totals 53 aircraft including B737-300Fs, B737-400Fs, B737-800Fs, B747-400Fs, B757-200Fs and B767-300Fs. Its primary hub is located in Shenzhen's Bao'an International Airport while it also has hubs in Hangzhou and Beijing.

It also has plans to develop its own air cargo airport in Ezhou, China.
