Fast-growing Danish forwarder Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has acquired an automotive logistics specialist as it targets growth in the sector.

SGL today announced the purchase of Germany-based AFL International Logistics and its sister US company American Freight Line.

AFL specialises in automotive transport between the European Union and the US.

Services include air, ocean, courier, express transports, and special services like sensitive cars and spare parts logistics.

AFL operates from three offices in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Fort Lauderdale.

AFL customers are typically small to mid-size US and Europe-based companies.

Marc Oedekoven, SGL executive vice president automotive logistics, said: "With these acquisitions, we will grow our automotive special logistics presence in the USA to benefit our customers and become even stronger in Germany."

Gabriele Heinrichs, AFL managing director, added: "In the last 25 years, we have successfully developed the automotive business as a specialist in classic and high-quality vehicles.

"We are delighted that our development in recent years attracted Scan Global Logistics, and we are truly excited to continue our growth trajectory together for the coming years."

The purchase is SGL's ninth in 2022. Most recently it acquired Sea-Air Logistics.
