San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) has signed a strategic alliance with the supply chain membership organsiation Holland International Distribution Council (HIDC) that they hope will help boost traffic at the Southern California airport.

The two companies said that the strategic alliance is intended to promote supply chain development, facilitate introductions to potential partners and clients, and promote both organisations as strategic partners in their respective markets

HIDC chief executive Remco Buurman said: “This alliance provides access and expertise for our members allowing us to benefit from best practices and international business opportunities, whether in airfreight-related logistics activities, regional warehousing and (e-commerce) fulfillment operations, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), spare parts logistics, manufacturing, training facilities or services."

Michael Burrows, executive director of the Inland Valley Development Agency and San Bernardino International Airport Authority added: "For centuries, the Netherlands has pioneered leadership in logistics.

"The efficiency and effectiveness of its Customs and import/export procedures, the quality of its transport and IT infrastructure, the ease of use and affordability of its shipping, and the caliber of professionalism in the Dutch logistics industry makes HIDC a critical partner for SBD International Airport."

The airport has seen its profile in the cargo industry rise over recent years, with new business wins. Notably, Amazon Air has announced plans to open a new regional air hub at the airport.
