US-owned hedge fund RiverOak is to hold a local public consultation on 18 July on its plans to redevelop the closed Manston Airport in Kent, south-east England, as a cargo hub. It follows publication of a scoping report outlining plans for the site.
The scheme, which is subject to a Governmental development consent order (DCO), could handle up to 10,000 cargo flights per year, although local residents are concerned about the impact of night flights on the area.
There are rival plans to develop the site for housing and leisure use.
In a statement, RiverOak said the event would be a chance for the community to find out more about its proposals.
It added that the intended timetable for the DCO had slipped, “mainly because the current owners of the airport site have so far not allowed access to the RiverOak team.”
A formal consultation stage will follow completion of the environmental study later this year.
