Freight forwarder Rhenus has opened an air and sea freight branch at Leipzig/Halle Airport, one of Germany fastest-growing gateways. It offers international air freight transports along with import and export, ocean freight and combined transport services. The new location will focus on connections to the Americas, Asia-Pacific and South Africa.

Managing director of Rhenus Air and Ocean Germany, Stefan Schwind, said that the forwarder chose Leipzig/Halle for its above-average growth of 7% in air freight volume in 2018, adding: “Its central location makes it an ideal addition to our network in the German market.”

Leipzig/Halle Airport is one of the five largest cargo airports in Europe and the second largest cargo airport in Germany after Frankfurt am Main, handling over 1.2 million tons of freight in 2018. It has two 3,600m runways and a 24-hour operating licence.
