In an interview with the Gulf Times, Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar al-Baker has confirmed that four of the B777 freighters it has on order will be delivered this year.
The airline finalised its order for five B777Fs at the 2018 Farnborough Airshow but did not reveal a timeline for their delivery.
Qatar's freighter fleet currently stands at two B747-8Fs, 16 B777Fs and five A330Fs. At the start of this year the airline operated eight A330Fs but three of the Airbus freighters leased from BOC Aviation have been returned and appear to be destined for Sichuan Airlines.
Qatar has yet to confirm whether the incoming B777Fs will replace any of its A330Fs or be used to provide additional capacity.
In the Gulf Times interview, al-Baker also confirmed that the airline will replace all its Airbus A330s with Airbus A350s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners in the next three years.
