QATAR Airways Cargo (QAC) is to launch scheduled dedicated freighter services to Hyderabad (India), London Stansted (UK) and is reinstating services to Zaragoza (Spain).
Textiles, agricultural products, footwear, automobile and pharmaceuticals are among the commodities likely to be shipped on the carrier’s scheduled twice-weekly A330 freighter service to Zaragoza, which began this month.
The Middle East airline is using an A330 freighter on its new twice-weekly service to Hyderabad, where the main exports include IT products and pharmaceuticals, beginning in April.
Its five weekly B777 freighter flights to London Stansted commence in May.
Ulrich Ogiermann, cargo chief officer of QAC, insists: “The addition of these new freighter routes clearly represent yet another milestone in Qatar Airways’ growth strategy, and on top of this, we will take delivery of two B777Fs and one A330-F during the course of 2014,” he adds.
In addition to the new routes, QAC has strengthened its product portfolio with the launch of two new premium services QR Pharma and QR Fresh, to optimise the transportation of time- and temperature-sensitive goods, including high-value pharmaceuticals products and perishables.
Last December, the airline’s 77,000-sq m new air cargo facility at Hamad International Airport handled its first shipment. The self-contained terminal, which can process 1.4 million tonnes of cargo annually, contains a perishables storage area, a live animals centre, as well as a dangerous goods area.
