QATAR Airways Cargo has operated its first B777 freighter service to London Stansted in the UK.

The Doha-based carrier is offering five-times-weekly scheduled flights into one of the largest freight hubs in the UK – “which is why we are very happy to add it to our network of more than 40 exclusive freighter destinations worldwide,” says Ulrich Ogiermann, Qatar Airways’ chief officer for cargo.

Stansted, managed by the MAG airports group in the UK, is delighted with the arrival of one of the Middle East’s major carriers.

According to Graeme Ferguson, MAG’s commercial director for cargo: “The introduction of this service creates new opportunities for customers from the Middle East and beyond, as well as for businesses and exporters from across London and the eastern [UK] region.”

Stansted is London’s second largest airport for cargo. It transports more than £8bn worth of cargo every year, and accounts for approximately 13 per cent of all UK airfreight.
