Qatar Airways Cargo has launched new freighter services to New York JFK and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The service to New York and Halifax will operate on a weekly frequency, flying out of Luxembourg, the cargo carrier’s European hub, every Wednesday.

A Boeing 777-200 freighter offering 103 tonnes of cargo capacity will operate the service

In addition to general cargo, lobster and seafood, major exports from both cities, are expected to be regularly flown to Europe, the Middle East, South and North East Asia via the carrier’s home hub of Doha.

The new freighter connection complements the pre-existing bellyhold capacity available on Qatar Airways’ passenger flights to New York (on which routeing Qatar Airways added a second daily service flown by an Airbus A350 XWB on 1 March this year).

The airline has served the city daily since the initial route launch in 2007 with a Boeing 777 aircraft. The double-daily passenger flights to New York JFK currently offer 125 tonnes of bellyhold cargo capacity each week.

Serving the Canadian market, Qatar Airways also operates three passenger flights a week from Montreal to Hamad International Airport.

Qatar Airways’ chief officer cargo, Ulrich Ogiermann, remarked: “From their strategic geographical positions, not only will the new service provide our customers with great access to the Americas’ marketplace, it will allow us to share one of region’s most sumptuous exports with the world.”

Qatar Airways Cargo recently took delivery of its 10th B777F, taking the total count of freighters it currently operates to 20.

The cargo carrier offers QR Charter, utilising a modern fleet of B777, A330 and B747 freighters. Its portfolio of products includes QR Pharma, QR Fresh, QR Live and QR Express.
