A preliminary report has been released on the tragic incident that saw seven of nine crew members on board a Silk Way-owned An-12 lose their lives when the aircraft crashed on take-off.

The incident occurred in May as the aircraft was leaving Dwyer Airport located in the Helmand province of Afghanistan on its way to Mary Airport in Turkmenistan.

The report reveals that the aircraft failed to lift off and overran the runway of Dwyer Airport and then sustained significant damage, which eventually led to a post-crash fire that destroyed the aircraft.
