IATA has launched its ‘Air cargo makes it happen’ campaign that aims to raise awareness of air cargo’s important role for e-commerce, economies and the global community as a whole.

The campaign provides eye-catching posters that can be shared easily and printed to “show the world all that cargo does,” said an IATA spokesperson.

The posters cover a range of air cargo product types, from the smallest diamond to an aircraft fuselage.

Aimed at the general public, IATA states that every year the global air cargo industry handles 2m pets and other live animals in the US, some 160,000 tonnes of Kenyan flowers and is responsible for transporting 24.4m carats of diamonds worth $3.53bn produced by Botswana.

Said IATA: “Air cargo transports over $6trn worth of goods, accounting for approximately 35% of world trade by value. Air Cargo is integral to many facets of modern life. It transports the electronic devices that make our day-to-day life easier and is a key element for E-Commerce.

“Did you know in 24 hours over 1.1m smartphones are transported? Also 6,849 lives are saved, thanks to supply chain solutions, bringing vaccines to their destination in time to be effective.

“Air cargo is critical in flying these temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals in the best conditions, using cutting-edge technologies and procedures.”
