Glauco Martinelli, the founder of Italian General Sales Agent (GSA) ATC has passed away following a long career in the airfreight industry.
Martinelli’s career began in 1960 with BOAC, followed by key roles in the cargo divisions of South African Airways and Alitalia.
In 1979, he founded ATC — likely the very first GSA in Italy, now owned by ECS Group.
At a time when the concept of a GSA was still unknown, Martinelli seized the opportunity to represent Air Canada, flying across the Atlantic to secure the business deal.
Under his leadership, ATC became a leading name in the Italian market.
In 2012, Glauco opened a new chapter for ATC by joining the international ECS Group. At this point, he passed the leadership of the company to his son, Sauro Martinelli.
Sauro aimed to incorporate continuity and fresh ambition into the business. Under his guidance, ATC embraced new challenges and expanded its reach in an increasingly globalised industry.
"Today, it stands as the largest GSA organisation in Italy — a testament to Glauco’s vision, determination, and lasting influence," said ECS Group.
The company added: "Glauco Martinelli leaves behind much more than a company — he leaves a legacy. His passion, ambition, and warmth left a mark on everyone who worked with him."
