Cargo technology company Nallian has appointed Lionel van der Walt as chief commercial officer, effective July 1.

In this role, van der Walt will be responsible for spearheading Nallian’s growth strategy. Nallian has offices in Belgium and Singapore, but van der Walt will be based out of North Carolina, US.

“Lionel’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Nallian as we continue to expand our footprint in the global market,” said Jean Verheyen, chief executive of Nallian.

“His extensive experience, network and strategic vision will be instrumental in accelerating our growth trajectory and delivering exceptional value to our customers, starting in the US where we already work with leading players such as Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Menzies in Los Angeles”.

Throughout his career, van der Walt has held various leadership positions at logistics companies. Most recently, he served as chief growth officer at Raft, and prior to that, as global chief commercial officer and chief executive Americas at PayCargo.

Prior to his time at PayCargo, van der Walt was president at Cargo Network Services (CNS) in the US and held various leadership roles at the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

He also worked at South African Airways, was an air traffic controller and served in the South African Air Force in the early stages of his career.

“I am thrilled to join the talented team at Nallian and contribute to the company’s continued success,” said van der Walt. “I am excited about the opportunity to lead Nallian’s commercial efforts and drive growth in key markets, particularly in North America, a region with immense potential for growth. I look forward to working closely with our customers and partners to deliver innovative solutions that address their evolving needs.”

According to its website, Nallian helps tackle cargo hub fragmentation, building transparency and efficiency using its technology. It aims to empower logistics companies and cargo communities to gain visibility in their cargo flows and coordinate freight handover processes.

Its solutions include Cargo Cloud to help reduce congestion and waiting times, optimise existing infrastructure and drive cargo growth. It also offers truck visit management, a digital checklist app, cargo statistics analysis and inspection management for import perishables.
