Doug Brittin, secretary general of TIACA, answers:
"Some things are very difficult to put a hard timeline on. For example, advanced data for customs information: In the USA, the CBP (US Customs and Border Protection agency) is drafting a rule right now. The EU has not started their one yet, but there is the move towards getting one. Canada is running a phased pilot [trial] but they are probably farther down the road towards a rule.
So, when you talk about a deadline, really the deadline we have is to raise awareness within the industry about the impact of all of these regulations before one party comes out with a unilateral rule – and we end up with the same type of situation as we did with the ACC3 (air cargo from a third country).
The challenge is to make sure everybody is on the same page, before anybody makes a law. . ."
