Qatar Airways Cargo will this week transport 118 show jumping and dressage horses from Liege to Doha to take part in the CHI Al Shaqab international equine event.

Three chartered Boeing 777 freighters equipped with air stables will carry the horses and a team of almost 90 vets and grooms to the event which takes place between March 2-5.

Qatar Airways chief officer Ulrich Ogiermann said: “The team at Qatar Airways Cargo is well trained and works in line with IATA’s Live Animal Regulations to provide the most comfortable journey for the horses.”

The airline’s QR Equine service includes specifically designed aircraft, comprising both Airbus and Boeing freighters, featuring controlled temperature zones, horse stalls and a team of grooms to accompany horses.

In Doha, Qatar Airways offers a live animal facility with air conditioned holding stalls, a paddock and on-site veterinary personnel.

Earlier this week, the airline announced a 37.5% surge in cargo tonnages during full year 2015, citing a combination of “fleet and network expansion, creative interline agreements and by deploying capacity on expanding or untapped markets”.
