The $65m ARK animal centre at New York JFK Airport has welcomed its first horse imports as phase two of the facility gets underway.
Last Friday, ARK's Equine Import Quarantine centre welcomed three Irish sport horses named Sandy, Jackson and Polly, also known as three shades of grey, for their their three-day quarantine before they were released on Monday.
Phase one of the facility,The ARK Pet Oasis and Equine Export Center, opened in January and has welcomed dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, baby goats, a pot-bellied pig and many other animals.
Phase 2 includes the Equine Import Quarantine and The ARK Aviary Quarantine, which is complete and awaiting final approval of the US Department of Agriculture.
Phase 3 services will include a long-term pet boarding facility and is expected to begin operations in late 2017.
