FORWARDERS who want to sign up for IATA’s Multilateral e-AWB Agreement can now do so with just an e-signature.
The new process, which is legally binding, secure, as well as efficient and environmentally-friendly, removes the need for parties to print, sign and mail paper documents, says a statement from the association.
A total of 68 carriers and 824 forwarders have now signed the single standard document, allowing businesses to communicate electronically, rather than use a paper airwaybill.
IATA’s e-AWB penetration target for 2014 is 22 per cent, 45 for 2015 and 80 per cent by end of 2016.
