Cargo growth at Munich Airport outstripped passengers in the first half of 2016, according to the airport authority’s latest figures. The total of about 163,000 tonnes of flown airfreight was 4% up on the same period a year earlier.

Passenger traffic gained 2.3% to reach nearly 20m in the first six months of the year, a new record. Route developments included new Lufthansa connections to Denver and Tehran, Delta to Detroit, Saudia to Riyadh and Condor to Windhoek, Namibia.

In January this year, the Munich airport group FMG expanded its ground handling operations in Berlin with the purchase of a Spanish-owned operator at the capital’s Tegel Airport (TXL).

AeroGround Flughafen München, a ground handling subsidiary of FMG, has acquired the established ground handling companies Acciona Airport Services Berlin and HSD Flughafen.
