In September, Munich International Airport handled approximately 30,559 tons of cargo (freight and mail). This figure was down by 4.1% on the same month of 2017.
Over the first nine months of this year, the Bavarian gateway handled 273,582 tons of cargo, down by 2.3% year on year.
A spokesperson from Munich Airport said that the gateway had experienced a capacity reduction in the belly freight segment mainly due to some aircraft switches made by airline clients.
Over the course of the 2017 calendar year, Munich handled about 373,000 tonnes of freight (inbound, outbound and transit). It also handled about 16,000 tons of airmail last year.
Munich was not alone in Germany, with Frankfurt Airport reporting a slight decline of 1.4% in September's cargo throughput (airfreight + airmail) to 185,042 tonnes, "reflecting the slowdown in global trade," said a spokesperson for Europe's largest airfreight hub by volumes.
