FREIGHT volumes at the new Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC) climbed 42.3 per cent to 76,816 tonnes in the first three months of this year as carriers transferred their services from the old congested airport.
Growth was buoyed by the introduction of several scheduled freighter services, with Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Cargolux all switching their dedicated freighter flights to Dubai’s second airport at the end of last year.
This has increased the number of weekly scheduled freighter flights through the new facility to more than 60.
The trend is continuing now that Emirates SkyCargo has transferred its 10 B777Fs and two B747Fs to DWC.
