European cargo hubs saw a mixed August, with two of the top three airports seeing monthly declines but year to date increases in airfreight volumes.

In 2015, Frankfurt saw a 2.5% decline in annual cargo throughputs to 2.1m tonnes, compared with 2014.
Amsterdam-Schiphol airport, third by European volumes in 2015 recorded a 1.3% decline in August to just under 136,000 tonnes but for the year to date is 1.6% ahead of the same period in 2015, with just over 1m tonnes for the first eight months of 2016.
London-Heathrow, the fourth largest European hub by volumes in 2015 at 1.5m tonnes, saw a 0.3% rise in throughput in August at 123,000 tonnes, and is 1.7% ahead year to date at just over 1m tonnes.
London-Stansted saw a 6.8% rise in August at 20,000 tonnes and is up by 8.1% year to date at 164,000 tonnes for the first eight months of 2016 versus 2015.
Paris, the second largest European hub in 2015 at just under 2.1m tonnes, saw a 2.8% rise in the first seven months of this year to 1.2m tonnes, but has yet to report its August statistics.
• In our airport review, the Air Cargo News edition of August 22, our table for the top European airports reporting their figures for the first five months of this year included incorrect data for the percentage increase or decline.
The figure shown was for the month of May alone. It should have been for the aggregate percentage increase or decrease during the first five months of 2016. Our apologies for this error.
