Logistics equipment firm Lödige Industries has completed the fit out of Turkish Cargo's new fully automated terminal at Istanbul Airport.
The new 300,000 sq m terminal - named SMARTIST - offers special cargo areas for product groups such as temperature-controlled storage (6,000 sq m), express cargo (2,000 sq m) and live animals (500 sq m).
In addition, 5,000 sq m are available for e-commerce and mail cargo, and another 1,000 sq m for a high-security area for handling valuable cargo.
The facility also boasts automated high-bay warehouses with 17,000 storage locations, 30 stacking cranes, 15 lifts and an integrated warehouse management system with direct interface to customer and freight management systems.

Earlier, this year Turkish Cargo moved its freighter operations over to Istanbul Airport to join its passenger flights after more than two years of operating with a dual-hub setup. The move followed the opening of the new Istanbul facility.
