Lufthansa Cargo has expanded its South American network with a new freighter connection to the Brazilian city of Natal.

“The destination fits right into the existing route to Frankfurt via Viracopos,” explained Achim Martinka, vice president Americas at Lufthansa Cargo.

A MD-11F now flies to the ‘City of the Sun’ every Sunday.

Located just a few degrees south of the Equator, Natal is on the north-eastern tip of Brazil and boasts ideal fruit-growing conditions.

Thanks to the subtropical climate, there is a large selection of fruit on offer, from papayas, melons, bananas and mangoes through to pineapples.

On the import side, Lufthansa Cargo’s new freighter service is supporting the region’s growing automotive sector by transporting parts needed from Europe.

“The new connection makes our offering to our customers in Brazil even more attractive,” said Martinka.

The new cargo connection under flight number LH8259 and with a load capacity of some 90 tonnes arrives in Natal from the south, linking it with the Brazilian city of Viracopos, before continuing on to Dakar and then Frankfurt.
