London Gatwick Airport saw airfreight throughput rise by 29.6% year on year in January, driven by the UK gateway’s growing long-haul flight network.

Total cargo throughput for January stood at 7,824 tonnes.

The positive result is part of a sustained trend: over the 12 months ended January, cargo at Gatwick increased by 25.4% year on year to 98,834 tonnes.

Gatwick, the UK’s second-largest passenger airport, has links to over 60 worldwide destinations and confirmed that flights to Buenos Aires will start soon. Norwegian will begin operating the route in February.

March, meanwhile, will see new services to the US cities of Austin and Chicago – also by Norwegian.
