DHL Global Forwarding has appointed George Lawson as chief executive and country manager for India.
Relocated from Bonn, Germany, Lawson is now based in Mumbai. In his new role as a member of the Asia Pacific Management Board, Lawson reports to Kelvin Leung, chief executive, DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific.
"With the Indian economy expected to grow at 7.5% in financial year 2016-17, India remains a key strategic region for DHL and we see tremendous opportunities in the country," said Leung.
He added: "George [Lawson] has successfully executed global strategies to drive growth and has a deep understanding of our business through the last two decades he spent with DHL. His experience will be beneficial in bringing our business growth to new heights in India."
Lawson joined DHL in 1992 and has worked in a number of leadership positions across different disciplines including sales, operations, marketing and general management in Asia and Europe, including a stint as chief operating officer, Singapore.
Most recently, he was the senior vice -president — global head of marketing and is the key architect of DHL Global Forwarding's Certified International Forwarder programme.
