Lufthansa-owned ULD management company Jettainer has set up a base station for its JettLease network at Leipzig/Halle Airport, Germany's second largest airfreight hub. Airlines can lease equipment for periods ranging from one day to several months, at very short notice, if necessary.

As well as standard containers, horse boxes and car racks are available.

Other JettLease hubs are at Frankfurt, Chicago and Hong Kong.

Jettainer chief executive, Carsten Hernig, explained: "We are responding to the growing demand for flexible loading equipment solutions at times of peak demand or for ad hoc operations. At the same time, we are working with our local partners to achieve greater customer proximity and improve our services."

Bettina Ganghofer, air cargo special representative at airport authority Mitteldeutsche Flughafen described the new station as “an asset for our air freight hub. Our airline customers will profit from the immediate availability of a range of both short-notice and flexible loading equipment solutions."
