Jettainer ULD-01

It's been a busy week for Jettainer, the Lufthansa Cargo subsidiary that handles outsourced ULD management for many freight carriers.

Yesterday (June 5), ACN reported that Jettainer had taken over the skypooling online platform, and the Frankfurt-based company has also confirmed that it is equipping containers and pallets of American Airlines Cargo with the Bluetooth-driven COREInsight tracking solution.

Jettainer simultaneously revealed that it is extending its cooperation with AA Cargo as a ULD management services provider for another five years.

The news was revealed at the transport logistic/Air Cargo Europe trade fair under way this week in Munich.

AA's ULD fleet encomapasses more than 18,000 units. Jettainer and the carrier are currently undertaking a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) proof of concept test, before Jettainer equips some 2,000 of the airline's ULDs with Core-TT BLE tags.

"ULD management is becoming increasingly digital and customers expect us to provide know-how and resources that fit their digital strategy," noted Carsten Hernig, managing director of Jettainer.

"BLE technology for ULDs helps to significantly increase process efficiency and facilitates the integration of ground handling into a digital logistics chain.

"With our partner COREInsight for BLE tracking and our self-developed ULD black box for damage control, we are leading the way in digitisation in the ULD business."

Rick Elieson, president of AA Cargo, added: "We strongly focus on opportunities created by digitalisation in many areas.

"Jettainer’s BLE equipped ULDs are an important part of this overall strategy and we are glad to have such a strong partner on our side."

Jettainer recently welcomed AA as a customer for its Cool Management service.

This gave the carrier access to the 24/7 service of Jettainer's own Cool Center of Excellence in Abu Dhabi, which is specifically responsible for managing temperature-controlled ULDs.
