ITA Airways Cargo will place its capacity on booking portal cargo.one, opening up extra capacity for the Italian market.
The move comes as the one-year-old airline has identified digital distribution expansion as a key strategic pillar of its development plan.
Cargo.one said that thousands of freight forwarders worldwide would benefit from gaining access to the carrier's capacity to, from and within Italy.
Users gain real-time visibility of ITA Airways Cargo routes and rates, as well as instantly bookable offers and confirmation.
"Through digital connectivity, ITA Airways Cargo aims to improve its value proposition, building an offer which provides customers with quality services quickly and with ever greater control over their shipments," cargo.one said.
ITA Airways celebrated its first year of activity on October 15 and its fleet will comprise 74 aircraft at the end of 2022.
Moritz Claussen, founder and co-chief executive of cargo.one, said: “The airline is savvy to pursue a digital strategy with customer centricity at its core. Freight forwarders will benefit immediately from the efficiencies and competitiveness that booking ITA Airways Cargo digitally will now unlock.”
ITA Airways is just one of a number of airlines to place capacity on cargo.one, including Qatar Cargo, AFKLMP, JAL Cargo and IAG Cargo.
The portal added that a recent study it had carried out found that across airlines surveyed, on average the share of bookings via digital channels is expected to rise from 20% in 2021 to 40% in 2023, and will hit almost 60% by 2025.
At the recent IATA World Cargo Symposium, Claussen said that portals are seeing "rapid growth across the board".
