International Airlines Group (IAG) has launched an accelerator programme for new high-tech companies in partnership with corporate innovation specialist and early-stage investor, L Marks.

Start-ups are invited to pitch to join the new venture, Hangar 51, and work with the airline group to find solutions to business challenges through collaborative partnerships. It will support the development of new entrepreneurs in the aviation industry develop new technology, products and services.

The ten-week programme will be based at IAG’s London headquarters. Start-up firms will receive mentoring from IAG’s senior management team to help them accelerate their product development and gain customer insights from experts and funding from IAG and L Marks.

The programme will focus on improving airport processes, digitising business and using data to increase customer satisfaction and create business value.

IAG’s head of digital transformation, Glenn Morgan, said: “This initiative is a great opportunity for early stage businesses to fast-track their innovative ideas by working closely with IAG. We’ll fully support them through mentoring and funding to improve customer journeys with new disruptive and innovative ideas.”

In April, rival carrier Lufthansa Cargo joined forces with Silicon Valley tech firm RocketSpace to set up a Logistics Tech Accelerator for start-ups and corporate innovation professionals in the freight industry.
