IAG CARGO has marked another milestone in its fleet modernisation programme by celebrating the start of flights to Johannesburg using its brand new A380.
Replacing the B747 on the route, the giant Airbus offers precision cargo opportunities for the South African temperature-sensitive market.
New air conditioning capabilities for the aircraft’s cargo holds will prove beneficial to customers wishing to transport temperature-sensitive products such as perishables or pharmaceuticals – a welcome feature for the South African perishables market, the company says.
IAG Cargo will be able to set and maintain hold-temperature to within one degree accuracy.
The airline has also optimised its belly capability by ordering two additional ULD positions in the A380, and the aircraft offers an improved maximum take-off weight which is 12 tonnes heavier than other carriers’ A380s, allowing it to carry more cargo.
